Federal Lands Access Program
Description
The Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) provides funding to improve transportation facilities such as roads, bridges, trails or transit systems that provide access to, are adjacent to, or are located within Federal lands.
Eligibility & Requirements
Only state and local governments are eligible to apply. National Park Service units may act as a supporting partner and non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations and foundations may provide non-federal match for projects. Funds may be used for the costs of transportation planning, research, engineering, preventive maintenance, rehabilitation, restoration, construction, and reconstruction. Applicable activities include parking areas; acquisition of scenic easements or historic sites; bicycle and pedestrian provisions; environmental mitigation; public safety; roadside rest areas; and other facilities determined by the Secretary of Transportation. Other eligible activities include the operation and maintenance of transit facilities, and any transportation project on federal land.
Awards
Funds are based on the total amount of federal lands within the state. In FY2018, approximately 1 million dollars was allocated to Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.
